AIPAD Recap

I visited the AIPAD show in New York on its opening day this year. It was just as impressive and inspiring for me as it has been every year that I visit. It's always exciting to visit the galleries that show photographers that I know. One, Bonni Benrubi, displayed one of Laura McPhee's photographs, as she does every year. The one she exhibited was from her series in Idaho (click) There is something so humbling about the work that is displayed and yet so intimate when you compare photographs by great artists, like Edward Weston, mounted right next to work by someone you know. My friend, Isabel, was very excited to see work by her professor, Emmet Gowin. His work was represented by at least three different galleries. Some of the artists that I was highly impressed by were:
Holly Andres at Robert Mann Gallery
Gail Albert Calaban also at Robert Mann Gallery
Lillian Bassman
Cig Harvey
Mona Kuhn at Jackson Fine Art Gallery
Robin Schwartz at M+B Gallery
Lottie Davis
Norman Parkinson

Spring

The time has finally arrived for outdoor activities! Although I love the winter and the its cold days, it is certainly time for a change. I am very excited about my upcoming portfolio, unofficially entitled: "Being Alice." I begin my portfolio with Isabel Flower, a fellow photographer who currently attends Princeton University. The work will mainly be created using my new Diana camera. I feel that in order to depict Lewis Carroll's "curious" characters, I need a very curious look...
